The Gadsden Public Library is partnering with the Hardin Center for Cultural Arts to bring programming to celebrate the CCA exhibit Cigar Box Guitars: 21st Century! On loan from the National Blues Museum in St. Louis, MO, Cigar Box Guitars: 21st Century features 50 functional homemade guitars! Programs take place in May & June and they are all free and open to the public. See schedule below:
Cigar Box Guitars

Local musician and cigar box guitar enthusiast Jacob Blackwood will demonstrate his process for creating one of these distinctly unique American instruments.
One-Stringed Guitars
Thursday, May 25, 5:30-6:30PM
Join us again as Jacob Blackwood demonstrates how to create a one stringed guitar! This presentation will be followed by an informal music session led by Glen Williams! Musicians welcome!
Kid’s Found Object Guitar Tutorial (ages 8-13)
Wednesday, June 21, 11AM-12:30PM
Learn how to make a guitar from found objects! Supplies will be provided. Seats limited to 20. The workshop is free, but registration is required. Please pre-register online here.
Separate from the GPL partnership series above, a special reunion event of the artists who created the cigar box guitars on exhibition is scheduled for Saturday, June 3:
